Hajdin, Nikola
Nikola Hajdin, rojen 4. aprila 1923 v Vrbovskem, Hrvaška, po narodnosti Srb, je redni profesor na Fakulteti za gradbeništvo v Beogradu. Doktoriral je na isti fakulteti 1956. Za znanstvenega sodelavca je bil izvoljen 1958, za docenta 1960, za izrednega profesorja 1961 in za rednega profesorja 1966. Bil je dekan Fakultete za gradbeništvo v Beogradu.
Razen splošnih predmetov Teorija gradbene mehanike, Trdnost materialov, Teorija plošč in lupin je predaval tudi na podiplomskem študiju naslednje predmete: Teorija plastičnosti, Nelinearna elastičnost in Teorija tankostenskih konstrukcij.
1970 je bil izvoljen za dopisnega člana Srbske akademije znanosti in umetnosti, 1976 je postal njen redni član. Podpredsednik akademije je bil od 1994 do 2003, njen predsednik pa od 2003.
Je član Grškega združenja za znanstvene raziskave metalnih konstrukcij, član znanstvenega odbora Costruzioni Metalliche Journal v Italiji, Švicarskega združenja za jeklene konstrukcije, Mednarodnega združenja za mostove in konstrukcije (IABSE), znanstvenega odbora Mednarodnega združenja za jeklene konstrukcije (EUROSTEEL). Je častni član nekdanjega Jugoslovanskega društva za mehaniko, nekdanje Jugoslovanske zveze gradbenih inženirjev in Grškega nacionalnega društva za teoretično in aplikativno mehaniko.
Predlagal (1954) in izdelal je metodo numerične analize problemov robnih vrednosti v teoriji elastičnosti, ki se je izkazala za primerno tako v teoriji linijskih nosilcev kot tudi v teoriji plošč in lupin. Metoda je osnovana na konceptu moderne numerične analize in uporabi računalnika. Ker njena uporaba zajema zelo široko področje, je težko določiti natančno število citatov. Gotovo je bila citirana več kot stokrat v tuji znanstveni literaturi.
Prispevek N. Hajdina k znanosti se nanaša predvsem na uporabo numeričnih metod v teoriji elastičnosti in v gradbeni mehaniki ter na dela v zvezi s tankostenskimi konstrukcijami. Dela N. Hajdina na tem področju, v glavnem objavljena v tujini, so med najbolj naprednimi in najpomembnejšimi prispevki na tem področju. Bila so predstavljena v številnih revijah, citirana in uporabljena v številnih delih in publikacijah tujih in domačih znanstvenikov. Izjemno dragoceni sta predvsem monografiji Dünnwandige Stäbe, Bd. 1 in 2 (z Dr. C. F. Kollbrunnerjem), ki ju je izdal Springer Publishing House 1972 in 1975. Monografiji sta izjemno delo zaradi svoje vsebine, s serijo prispevkov, ki zajemajo avtorjevo delo v obdobju dvajsetih let.
Drugo znanstveno področje v teoriji gradbene mehanike, kjer je Hajdinov prispevek izjemen, so tankostenske konstrukcije, ki so zaradi svojih lastnosti široko uporabljene v številnih tehničnih vejah, kot so gradbeništvo, strojništvo, ladjedelništvo in aeronavtika. Dela N. Hajdina na tem področju, objavljena predvsem v tujini, so najpomembnejša na tem področju.
Znanstveni opus N. Hajdina zajema okrog 200 člankov (skoraj polovica je bila objavljena v tujini v najbolj uglednih revijah). Ima več kot 380 citatov v tujini in več sto v nekdanji Jugoslaviji.
Prof. Hajdin je zelo cenjen avtor serije jeklenih in armiranobetonskih konstrukcij. Posebno pozornost zaslužijo: železniški most z zategami čez Savo v Beogradu (z Lj. Jevtovićem), 1979, s središčnim razponom 254 m in skupno dolžino 556 m – prvi most te vrste za železniški promet; cestni most z zategami čez Donavo v Novem Sadu (1981) z rekordno širino 351 m; jez Glažnje (Makedonija), višina 85 m (1967); največji most z zategami (razpon 375 m) čez reko Vislo na Poljskem.

N. Hajdin je dopisni član Slovenske akademije znanosti in umetnosti, Evropske akademije znanosti, umetnosti in literature s sedežem v Parizu, Evropske akademije znanosti in umetnosti v Salzburgu, Nacionalne akademije v Atenah, častni član Grškega združenja za raziskave jeklenih konstrukcij, častni član Grškega društva za teoretično in uporabno mehaniko. 2000 je bil izvoljen za častnega doktorja Tehnične univerze v Atenah.
Opravljal je številne znanstvene in strokovne zadolžitve v številnih organizacijah v nekdanji Jugoslaviji in tujini: bil je predsednik Jugoslovanske skupine Mednarodne zveze za mostove in konstrukcijsko inženirstvo (IABSE), član stalnega odbora te organizacije, predsednik Jugoslovanskega odbora Mednarodnega združenja za teorijsko in uporabno mehaniko, predsednik Jugoslovanskega združenja gradbenih inženirjev.
Bil je gostujoči profesor za predmet Tankostenske konstrukcije na ETH Zurich od 1971 do 1973 in gostujoči raziskovalec pri Švicarskem združenju za jeklene konstrukcije. Švico je obiskal večkrat in sodeloval v raziskavah teorije tankostenskih konstrukcij. Imel je številna predavanja na znanstvenih konferencah na tujih univerzah in ustanovah.
Bil je član različnih raznih znanstvenih odborov mednarodnih simpozijev in konferenc.

Nikola Hajdin (Vrbovsko - Croatia, April 4, 1923). He is of Serbian nationality. Full professor the Faculty of Civil Engineering in Belgrade.
He took his Ph.D. degree at the same Faculty in 1956. He was elected scientific associate at the Faculty of Civil Engineering in 1958, assistant professor in 1960, associate professor in 1961. and full professor in 1966. Dean of the Faculty of Civil Engineering in Belgrade.
Besides general subjects Theory of structural mechanics, Strength of materials, Theory of plates and shells, he also taught at the post-graduate studies the following subjects: Theory of plasticity, Non-linear elasticity and Theory of thin-walled structures.
In 1970 he was elected a corresponding member of the Serbian Academy of Sciences and Arts, and in 1976 a full member. Vice-president of SASA from 1994 till 2003, president of SASA from 2003.
He is a member of the Greek Association for Scientific Research of Metal Structures, of the Scientific Committee of the Costruzioni Metaliche journal (Italy), of the Swiss Association for Steel Structures, of the International Association for Bridge and Structural Engineering (IABSE), of the Scientific Committee of the International Association for Steel Structures (Eurosteel); he is an honorary member of: the Yugoslav Society for Mechanics, the Yugoslav Structural Engineers Society and the Greek National Society for Theoretical and Applied Mechanics.
He has proposed (in 1954) and elaborated a method for numerical analysis of boundary value problems in the Theory of elasticity, which has proved to be suitable both in Theory of linear girders and Theory of plates and shells. The method is based on modern numerical analysis concept and computer applications. In view of its wide-ranging application, the exact number of citation is difficult to ascertain. We can say that it was cited more them 100 times in foreign scientific literature
Scientific activity of Nikola Hajdin, to which he gave considerable contribution, relates primarily to application of numerical methods in Theory of elasticity and Structural mechanics and works in the Theory of thin walled-structures. N. Hajdin's works in this field, for the most part published abroad, are among the most advanced and most important contributions of their kind. They have been presented in a number of journals and reviews, cited and used in numerous works and publications by foreign and domestic scientists. Exceptionally valuable among them are two monographs: "Dünnwandige Stäbe", Bd. 1 and 2 (with Dr. C.F. Kollbrunner), published by the Springer Publishing House in 1972 and 1975 respectively. The monographs constitute a unic work in terms of content, with a series of contributions originally describing the author's area of interest spanning well over twenty years.
Another scientific field of Theory of structural mechanics where academician Hajdin gave an exceptional contribution are Thin-walled structures which, due to its characteristics are largely applied in a number of technical branches such as civil engineering, mechanical engineering, ship construction, aeronautics and others. Works of Professor Hajdin in this field, mostly published abroad, are ranked among the most essential works in this field.
Scientific opus of Professor Hajdin of about 199 papers (almost half of which were published abroad in the most distinguished journals); he has over 380 citations abroad and several hundreds in Yugoslavia.
Professor Hajdin is highly valued author of a series of steel and concrete structures. The following achievements deserve special attention: railway cable-stayed bridge across the Sava river in Belgrade (with Lj. Jevtović), 1979, with central span of 254 m, and total length of 556 m. - The first bridge of this kind for railway traffic; cable-stayed road bridge across the Danube in Novi Sad (1981), with the record span of 351 m; arch dam Glažnje (Macedonia), height 85 m (1967); the biggest cable-stayed bridge (375 m span) over Visla river in Poland.

He is a foreign member of the Slovenian Academy of Sciences and Arts; of the European Academy of Sciences, Art and Literature seated in Paris; of the European Academy of Sciences and Arts, headquartered in Salzburg; of the National Academy of Athens; honorary member of the Greek Association for Research in Steel Structures; honorary member of the Hellenic Society for Theoretical and Applied Mechanics. In the year 2000, he was elected honorary doctor of the National Technical University of Athens.
During his professional career Professor Hajdin carried out a number of scientific and professional duties at many associations in Yugoslavia and abroad: President of the Yugoslav Group of the International Association of Bridges and Structural Engineering (IABSE) and a member of the Permanent Committee of this organization, president of the Yugoslav Committee of the International Union for Theoretical and Applied Mechanics,, President of the Yugoslav Society of Structural Engineers.
He was visiting professor on the subject of Thin-walled structures at the Swiss Federal Institute of Technology (ETH) in Zurich from 1971 to 1973, guest-scientist of the Swiss Association for Steel Structures. He visited Switzerland many times, participating in research in the theory of thin-walled structures. He also delivered many lectures at scientific conferences at foreign universities and institutions.
He is a member of different scientific committees of international symposia and conferences.
