Ilijanić, Ljudevit

Ljudevit Ilijanić, (Slapno pri Ozlju, 27. 9. 1928), botanik, dr. bioloških znanosti, redni profesor geobotanike in ekologije rastlin (v pokoju) na Naravoslovno-matematični fakulteti Univerze v Zagrebu.
Od rojstva živi na Hrvaškem. Po maturi na moški realni gimnaziji v Karlovcu se je 1947 vpisal na Biološki oddelek Naravoslovno-matematične fakultete (PMF) Univerze v Zagrebu, kjer je 1952 diplomiral iz biologije. 1. 10. 1953 je bil izbran za asistenta na Botaničnem inštitutu NMF. Poleg pedagoškega dela je znanstveno raziskoval in organiziral ekološki laboratorij za znanstvene in pedagoške namene. L. 1960 je doktoriral s temo Ekološko-fitocenološke raziskave nižinskih travišč Hrvaške. L. 1963 je bil šest mesecev na podoktorski specializaciji pri Braun-Blanquetu v Montpellieru. Istega leta je bil izbran za docenta, nato za izrednega (1969) in rednega profesorja (1974) geobotanike in ekologije rastlinstva do upokojitve (1993). Predaval je tudi na podiplomskem študiju, študiju za specializacijo srednješolskih profesorjev in na dodiplomskem študiju biologije v Splitu (1980–94). Bil je na večmesečnih študijskih potovanjih v Nemčiji, tedanji Češkoslovaški, Poljski, Rusiji, ZDA idr.
Na Naravoslovno-matematični fakulteti je imel več funkcij, med drugimi je bil načelnik Biološkega oddelka(1970–71), prodekan NMF (1974–76), predstojnik Botaničnega zavoda (1987–89) in glavni urednik znanstvenega časopisa Acta Botanica Croatica (1969–92). Bil je predsednik Upravnega odbora (1969–70), predsednik Znanstvenega sveta (1970 in 1974–75) in načelnik Oddelka za geobotaniko Inštituta za botaniko Univerze v Zagrebu (1974–75).
Univerza v Zagrebu mu je 11. julija 2000 podelila častni naslov professor emeritus in 12. junija 2003 je bil izvoljen za dopisnega člana SAZU.
Ilijanić je član mnogih mednarodnih in domačih znanstvenih in strokovnih društev, npr. International Association for Vegetation Science, Eastern Alpine and Dinaric Society for Vegetation Ecology, Hrvaško botanično društvo idr., občasno je imel v teh asociacijah pomembnejše funkcije.
Njegov znanstveni opus zajema okoli 90 tehtnih znanstvenih del, v katerih so objavljeni rezultati fitocenološko-ekoloških, autekoloških, horoloških in florističnih raziskav in preučevanj dinamike in sukcesije vegetacije. Poleg znanstvenega in pedagoškega dela je delal tudi na področju strokovnih del. Tako je soavtor prvega učbenika ekologije rastlinstva Hrvaške (Gračanin M., ..., Ilijanić, Lj., 1977, Uvod v ekologijo rastlinstva, 318 strani), pri ediciji Flora Croatica (2000, ur. Nikolić T.), ter avtor več kot 800 člankov in enciklopedičnih sestavkov v Splošni enciklopediji JLZ in Hrvaški splošni enciklopediji leksikografskega zavoda, kjer je bil urednik za botaniko. Več let se je ukvarjal z varstvom narave in je avtor mnogih člankov in posameznih poglavij v raznih publikacijah s tega področja.

Ljudevit Ilijanić (Slapno near Ozalj, 27 September 1928) botanist, Dr. Sc., Full professor of Phytogeography and Plant Ecology (retired) at Faculty of Science, University of Zagreb.

He was born in Croatia where he is still resides. After finishing the Male Gymnasium in Karlovac, he started study of biology at Biological Department, Faculty of Science in Zagreb in 1947, from which he has graduated in 1952. After serving in the Army, he became a research assistant at Botanical Institut of Faculty of Science, starting with 1 October 1953. In addition to teaching students, he was involved in scientific research and organized the ecological laboratory for students and recherchers. He graduated to Dr.Sc. in 1960 with the thesis „Ecologycal investigations of lowland meadows in Croatia“ (Ekološko-fitocenološka istraživanja nizinskih livada Hrvatske).

As a postdoctorate student he spent six months in 1963 at SIGMA Institute, Montpellier (France), with J.Braun-Blanquet. The same year (1963) he became a docent, then in 1969 an associate professor, and finally in 1974 a full professor of phytogeography and plant ecology. Until the retirement (1993) he held lectures on both the undergraduate as well as the postgraduate course. In addition to lectures on Faculty of Science in Zagreb, in the period of 1980-1994. he also held lectures on the undergraduate course of Phytogeography and Ecology in Split.

On several occasions he spent shorter periods in scientific institutes abroad (Germany, Czechoslowakia, Poland, Swiss, Russia, USA).

At the Faculty of Science in Zagreb he has held such positions as Head of Biological Department (1970-1971), Co-dean (1974-1976), Head of Botanical Institute (1987-1989), editor-in-chief of the review Acta Botanica Croatica (1969-1992), Board Chairman (1969-1970), Head of Scientific Council (1974 and 1974-1975) and Head of Phytogeographical Department of the Botanical Institute of the University of Zagreb (1974-1975).

Corresponding member of the Slovenian Academy of Sciences and Arts since June 12, 2003.

Scientific work includes about 90 scientific papers with results of phytosociological-ecological, autecological, chorological and floristic research, as well investigation of vegetation succession.

In addition to scientific and pedagogic activity he was also co-author of the first text-book of plant ecology in Croatia (Gračanin M., Ilijanić Lj. (1977) Uvod u ekologiju bilja. Moderna biologija. Školska knjiga, Zagreb, 318 pag.), and co-author of the manual Index florae Croaticae. Pars.3. Nat.Croat.Vol 9, Suppl.1 (2000).

He has been involved in nature protection for years, and he was author of many articles or chapters on the topic. Several decades he collaborated with Leksikografski zavod „Miroslav Krleža“ in Zagreb, where he was editor for botany and author of more then 800 articles in encyclopedia.

University of Zagreb granted him 11. July 2000 the honorary status of professor emeritus.
